I assume you are not aware of our government’s efforts to shrink people; otherwise, you would not be making fun of the next generation in human-scale technology.

This work has been underway for quite some time. The project, known as SHORT, for Standard Human Overall Reduction Technology, is actually a subset of, and is running parallel with, the Human Genome Project. The ultimate goal of SHORT is to progressively reduce the average size of a human subject by manipulating its genetic structure. The first stage goal is to produce a Caucasian child that is 20 to 30 percent smaller in all dimensions by the year 2011, this would be about five years before the higher Average Corporate Fuel Economy regulations go into effect, thus allowing a family of three, by 2016, to all go for a ride together in the new, smaller cars.

By 2020 or 2025, in stage two of SHORT, genetic engineers expect to produce the first pygmy Caucasians, perhaps no taller than four feet when fully mature. This will revolutionize not only automobile production but also public transportation by allowing hundreds to ride where only dozens rode before.
